Questlove is a man who wears many hats: drummer for hip-hop legends The Roots, bandleader for Jimmy Fallon, DJ extraordinaire. Mo’ Meta Blues chronicles his life and work. This New York Times non-fiction bestseller was co-written by frequent New Yorker contributor Ben Greenman.
AND was invited to design the cover of the highly anticipated book, and we commissioned illustrator David Cowles to riff on Milton Glaser’s classic Bob Dylan portrait (and included a shout out to Milton in the credits).
While Glaser’s Bob Dylan poster is beautiful and iconic, we didn’t want to simply mimic that style. By turning Questlove’s trademark afro into a pile a question marks, the image became relevant and modern.
